Blog friends, help a gay father out!

I remember last year's post at this time was all about the many questions Bill and I were getting about having a baby, and the questions I was asking myself about having a baby. But man how things change in just a year.  This year the only question I'm asking is...

"What in the heck do you buy a 7-month old baby girl???"

she already has all the love in the world surrounding her...
her dresser and closet are overflowing with clothes...
and her favorite toy is a teething ring or Chloe's tail...

So this is my valiant attempt at soliciting advice from all my blog buddies (in a world of much unsolicited advice when becoming a new parent!)

On a humorous note, someone said to get her a cardboard box, cut holes in it, and put the money in stocks. Not an option!

With sincerity,
D

  1. i honestly asked my facebook friends the exact same thing! thankfully we have grandparents that are overflowing the tree already, so we aren't going too crazy BUT what we have gotten our boys are books, esp books they can play with and chew without ruining them, since PB is starting to hold himself up standing and making the motions of pulling himself up I found a cute play table they can use while sitting and then standing once they get there. i also decided that this was a great opportunity to get them some stuff they can use a little later once they start walking ... i know they'll get more at their birthday, but just in case they're early walkers i wanted to be prepared!! lol ... hope that helps a little.

    1. Thanks Laura, I've seen Cristina do the same when leaning up against our ottomans! I'll be on the lookout for something. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!

  2. If Christina Lei has it all already, give her another teething ring so she can have one in each hand - and tons of cuddles. And a donation for another child who does not have it all. She won't remember this Christmas anyway and would be proud of you one day to hear that you supported somebody in need of help.
    Merry Christmas!!

    1. Done! We've already packaged a lot of her old clothes and are giving to a friend who is a single mom and can't afford much. Thanks for the reminder...and Happy Christmas!

  3. We bought the girls something like
PLAYSKOOL POPPIN' PARK ELEFUN Busy Ball Popper,
it was great entertainment for when they were sitting and watching it. Now they love to fetch the balls and put them back in to the toy to watch it pop back up. This is one toy that has lasted months without them out growing.

Also Melissa & Doug - Large Farm Jumbo Knob Puzzle - English Edition
They love the puzzle and are just figuring out to how put the puzzle together, again another toy that we got early and has lasted months.

Those or my two favorite toys, or I should say those are the two favorite toys of the girls.

You do have to know that they played with the boxes that each of those toys came in first! We still play with boxes only now they used them to climb.

  4. I saw something on Pinterest that I wish I had started when my (13 and 15 year old) kids were little: have them pick 4 things: 1 thing I want, 1 thing I need, 1 thing I'll wear, and 1 thing I'll read. I think that doing only 4 gifts would be financially (virtually) stress free, and it would help the kids keep things in perspective. We have grandparents, family and friends that shower them with gifts, so "just" 4 at home seems awesome. I do Angel Tree kids too, so my kids each pick a kid their age to sponsor. The stuff they want gets smaller and more expensive as they get older, too!!

  6. Hey There, Little girls seem to love butterflies from a very early age. I have seen these beautiful butterfly string lights that change colour and sparkle - you could get them for her room....I know she cant play with them but she would be likely to gaze at them for hours!! Well I know I did! Merry Christmas such a wonderful time

  7. I think it's about darn time you get that girl a PONY...maybe 2!
However, from experience, she'll probably still be more excited to play with a cardboard box!

  8. ::Warning:: this is going to be the most boring gift suggestion ever… I would open a custodial savings account for her with monthly direct deposit set up for the next 18 years. Baby’s 1st College Fund! This is perhaps the one and only year that you will get away with giving her a gift like this, lol!

    Happy Holidays!

  9. 1) Put a little bit of raw rice or beans in an empty water bottle and tape it, then put a bow on it!. 2) Get fruits and vegetables, a basket!, and let her play with each one (say name, smell, taste, feel). Onion, banana, orange, apple, etc. You will have ONE HUGE MESS but it is an amazing experience for you (and for her). 3) Get out your spices and SMELL! and name each spice. 4)Those battery-run animated toys that are everywhere at Christmas. We have Tiger and a Penquin that sing and dance to Christmas songs; our daughter was delighted last year and again this year.
